About Project

WALC establishes an International Center for Artistic Research and  Practice of Walking Art in Prespes Greece.

The  central HUB is situated  in Prespa (Visual March to Prespes, University of Western Macedonia. Leader, Πανεπιστήμιο Δυτικής Μακεδονίας, UOWM, Greece), and with partner HUBs in Portugal (WalkLab2.PT at the University of Minho – UMINHO, Universidade do Minho), Spain (Contemporary Art Center Nau Côclea – CACNC, Centre de Creació Contemporània Nau Côclea, Catalonia), France  (Association Temps Réel – GIGACIRCUS, France), Belgium (walk · listen · create, wlc and School of Gaasbeek –  SvG, De School van Gaasbeek), Greece (Action Synergy SA – AS). It also includes   NODES in other European countries and globally.

The project is shaped around  two main International Walking Arts Encounters in Prespa (in 2025 and 2027, with international  participation, and with parallel actions in the selected NODES around the world, preceded by an art residency in Prespa, along with residencies and in situ workshops in Portugal, Spain, France and Belgium over a period of four years. WALC is  backed by a digital ecosystem, an online community platform and an online archive for walking arts, guaranteeing the continuity of the project.

WALC will be generating art venues in areas of periphery that will allow artists to work in an innovative manner, with a focus on collectivism and co-creation, and it will establish a network of partners, other organizations and local groups, adding to the sustainability of local communities of areas that are in a harsh reality of isolation of underdevelopment.
