BELGIUM

The School of Gaasbeek, at the outskirts of Brussels, introduces new ways of working on wellbeing, social interaction and attentiveness for our surroundings.

It will function as an artist residency and platform for creation of new art work that considers walking, wandering, trying and exploring as one of the main tools to empower the agency and civic significance of art. It is located in the former village school of Gaasbeek – in a Flemish village with 300 inhabitants – only 14 km away from the European Capital.

Hospitality is here as well at the core of the artistic activities during WALC. As a ‘breeding ground’ and in cooperation with international artist residents, local farmers and village inhabitants, it addresses the most contemporary issues in the field of arts, including their political and societal aspects: ecology, gender-equality, inclusion, fluidity. Walking and wandering as a method to explore a polyphonic and embodied storytelling in a precarious world.
