Contemporary Art Center Nau Coclea in Camallera, Catalonia – Côclea Association (Spain)

 

Independent non-profit artists association founded in 1989 with a curriculum of 30 year’s cultural work. Nau Côclea is an artist residency and an art center active in the local community, developing networking with regional, national and international organizations and working to establish a European network of walking arts. In 2022 and in 2024 Nau Côclea was the main organizer of the Encounters Walking Art and Relational Geographies in Girona, Olot and Vic (2022) and Girona and Banyoles (2024) (Catalonia Spain).
Nau Côclea organizes as well , together with the Exile Memorial Museum of La Jonquera and the Walter Benjamin Chair of the Girona University the Walking and art program Walter Benjamin, a trans-border project about the philosopher Walter Benjamin and the Spanish “retirada” at the end of the Civil Spanish War.
Highlight of their activities is Grand Tour, a walking arts program running since 2015, a three week walk of about 300 kilometers. The participants walk together with artists of all disciplines. The walk also explores the territory together with local people. Côclea’s main role will be the yearly organization of Grand Tour and the 3 residencies related to it.

Clara Garí

Researcher, walking artist and cultural manager. Licenciada  en Historia del Arte  (Barcelona University) Licence en Histoire de l’Art et Archeologie (Leuven University), Diplome en Animation en ARts (Université Catholique de Louvain la Neuve) Postgradutae  Online teaching and co-learning (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya). She is director of the Contemporary Art Center Nau Côclea in Camallera, Catalonia, Spain. Her biography joins cultural management and art practice with a lot of freedom beyond professional boundaries. She has curated many exhibitions and directed interdisciplinary performing arts programs in Spain and other European countries. She is artistic director of the Grand Tour, a Walking Art Project active since 2015. She is co-director of the International Conference and Encounters Walking Art and Relational Geographies, held in Girona and Vic universities in 2022 and 2024. She has also co-directed the educational project Shantidhara Pillalu in Chimallapali, Andhra Pradesh, India.She regularly collaborates with several international media (e-magazines, podcasts, blogs) on issues of live arts, walking art, art and community, art and education and new artistic behaviors.

At WALC she is responsible for the activities of Nau Côclea: Grand Tour project and residencies.
