THE PROJECT BACKGROUND

What is Walking Arts?

Walking Art, of all contemporary art practices, has taken a pioneering role in recent years. It is an innovative process-based art form initiated by the most substantial need of human and non-human beings: to move, to migrate, to transfer themselves to another place. Internationally physical and digital venues for walking arts are emerging.

However, there is a lack of European connection and of a central art venue for Walking Arts that will allow its further development and the systematic documentation of its artistic activities and critical thinking.

We elaborate walking as an art form, as originated in the last decades of the 20th century, strongly connected with community-based art, relevant to community issues and social change.

As such the project Walking Arts & Local Community (WALC) has two main topics: Walking Art practices and Community-based art, with an innovative approach to both of them.
